There is no separate teacher education programme for special teachers, since inclusive education is an important aspect in all programmes for all students. Further specialisation in inclusive education is offered as a subject study in the secondary teacher education programme, on Master’s level for primary teacher education and of course in further education.
Studying at PH OÖ provides all teachers with the competences needed for teaching in a comprehensive school environment. Special needs, intercultural aspects as well as gender justice and social disadvantage are taken into account. The PH has a leading position in Austria concerning inclusive education (IE). Furthermore it hosts the national center for IE.
Respecting diversity is a guiding principle of our professional work and personal behaviour. We also rely on the belief that a strong cooperation with international partners enriches our teaching and research activities which is, without question, a benefit for students and staff.
Every year, we organise a large number of conferences featuring national and international experts and participate in worldwide symposiums. This serves to prioritise our objective to be an active part of the international scientific community.
We strive to develop new and proactive strategies and programmes in response to social and political challenges, often also in cooperation with local, regional, national and international partners.
Our institution is involved in a range of activities: student, staff, and teacher staff exchange, cross-border research collaboration, and international projects, both as leader or participant, dealing with topics concerning societal and educational challenges. Our cooperation network embraces a high number of European countries as well as Georgia, Bielorussia and Israel.
International students from partner universities may choose among a range of courses which are taught entirely in English. School practice together with tutoring courses are of course part of our offer.

International students planning to do the whole TE programme at PH OÖ to become a primary or a secondary teacher in Austria have to provide a certificate attesting at least a C1/B2+ language level in German. International teachers who studied TE in their home countries outside of Europe are supported and advised in the process of recognition.
We put a strong emphasis on a friendly, open-minded and welcoming atmosphere for both students and lecturers, which makes it so much easier for international students and teaching staff to fit right in and feel at home. Our administrative and teacher staff makes a point of being available for any questions or difficulties that might arise. We strive to keep staff and student interaction as easy-going and informal as possible. Our Institute of International Cooperation and Study Programmes is dedicated to help you make the best out of your stay in Linz; we offer additional study programmes in English for international students and are happy to receive guest teachers for our local students.

what you should know about us
We are part of a close cooperative network on a local, regional and (inter)national level. We boast partnerships with about 50 European and international universities and are in- volved in various projects within Erasmus+ on topics like multicultural education, citizenship education or mobile learning.
We are at the forefront of research and training in cooperation with different school types, developing and evaluating new teaching methods especially in natural sciences. Current trends and needs in schools are continually analysed and responded to in our pre- and in-service education programmes.
Every year, we organise a large number of conferences featuring national and internationIal experts and participate in worldwide symposiums. This serves to prioritise our objective to be an active part of the international scientific community.
We strive to develop new and proactive strategies and programmes in response to social and political challenges, like special language courses for refugees initiated by our student union. We foster continual exchange between education and industry in order to clarify mutual expectations.
We combine a practical approach with scientific, research-based education. School practice is very important for us. Students have the opportunity to observe highly professional practice teachers in their classrooms, and later on they will teach (sequences of) lessons by themselves. Every student is supported by the practice teacher and a mentor.
